National Foster Care Awareness Month
So many times, when a child enters the foster care system, they have minimal personal belongings with them. When a child is removed from their home, there many emotions involved. There is often no time or attention given to grabbing their personal belongings or some clothes. A lot of essential items are left behind.
But we believe it does not have to be this way!
We bring essential items to a child within two days of entering the foster care system. That helps the child feel more at home in their new environment.
Together we can change the way children experience foster care.
Over 400,000 children are in foster care across the United States.
There are 65,000 children in foster care in California.
And there are 1,000 children in foster care in Contra Costa County and
1,200 children in foster care in Alameda County.
Set To Thrive seeks to ease the transition for children entering the foster care system with a custom bag - a Thrive Bag - filled with new essential items to bring some comfort and confidence during a vulnerable time.
A gift or donation from you to Set To Thrive means we can provide youth entering foster care with all the essential items they need to thrive in their new environments. It also means giving the support and help to their foster parents and caseworkers, by getting a head start on providing foster youth with their personalized needs. Children deserve the chance to feel comfortable, to feel loved, and to feel supported, no matter the circumstances.
We hope you will join us and donate today!
